We are constantly being told about the importance of goal setting, how to set objectives, goals and the tasks that leads to their completion. How important it is to set things out in an organized fashion that we can follow and mark our success.
This is all very well, but what if you have everything planned and mapped out to the letter on how you are going to reach your goals but just do not have the motivation to get started or hit a slump half way through your program. The biggest cause of failing at any task is procrastination, putting things off and always saying “I will start tomorrow”.
So the question we all want answered is how do you get motivated and feel good about it? If you go to work with the attitude that it is going to be a long day and you do not really feel like it, how productive do you think you will be in that day? Let us look at some top tips that will not just give you the energy to get the tasks done but to feel good about doing them.
How often have you heard someone say something that has made you feel like you need to get up and go do something and feel motivated about doing it. It might have been a motivational speech by your boss that has made you think “yes, he is right I’m really going to put some extra effort into that task”.
Motivational tapes and speakers are all around us but we do not have to listen to them constantly to keep us going. We can make our own little slogans or what we call a mantra that you can say to yourself when you are feeling unmotivated. A little phrase such as “why put off till tomorrow what I can do today” or “I will get out of Life what I put in”, you can make up your own slogan to whatever makes you feel more motivated.
Exercise is a top motivator, many people might say; great but it is the exercise that I need motivation for, that’s fine you don’t have to go to the gym or run a marathon, just go for a brisk walk and clear your head. A breath of fresh air and getting the body warm can do wonders for your motivation.
Remember the times when you have been at your best and reminisce to how that made you feel, the sense of achievement that was overwhelming when you sat back at the end of the day and looked back over you accomplishments. How good it would be to have that feeling at the end of this day.
The best way to avoid procrastination is to know how to identify it. Know your own mind and know the things that put you off doing a task. When you start to feel those thoughts creeping into your head do something about it straight away, pick up your gym back or say your slogan, don’t let it take over.
