People have challenged a lot of notions in life. Some insist that man has never walked on the moon. Some other’s claim that DNA was created celestially and subsequently planted on earth by extra-terrestrial life.
Michael Talbot, a well-respected author of many books including The Holographic Universe, claims that the entire notion of a universe is nothing more than a hologram. The 338-page novel released in 1991 created a lot of buzz in both the scientific and layman world.
Talbot closely examined the work of famed physicist David Bohm and neurophysiologist Karl Pribram before printing his theory.
The Holographic Universe is based strictly on theoretical science, but it’s simply understood—grammatically—by everyone who reads it. Talbot was always celebrated for his knack of taking the completed rhetoric of science and putting into layman’s terms for the everyman to enjoy. In this book, Talbot examines the cosmos we live in and attempts to explain paranormal events, UFO sightings, and other strange phenomena by likening the entire universe to an enormous hologram.
The material Talbot presents in his book is astounding. He challenges everything that people in today’s world hold sacred, mainly materialism, and suggests than one’s reality is relative to their particular perception. This notion isn’t a new one; many have said similar things. But what Talbot does is further explain it in vivid detail, outlining the science behind what we sometimes think we see and what is actually there.
The Holographic Universe is divided into three major parts. The first part addresses the human brain and its relationship with the universe, both as separate entities and as one. The second part of the book, if you believe in the first, really opens eyes to the ramifications of our holographic universe. Talbot speaks of the implications in human understanding of consciousness and perception. The third part of the book deals with space and time from his theoretical holographic standpoint. Talbot’s main purpose with this book is to change the minds, not of regular people, but of scientists.
Talbot calls for scientists to understand that they’re the ones needing a change in thinking. He wishes the science community to become participants in the experience rather than mere observers. By acknowledging the existence of the paranormal and psychic and spiritual phenomena, Talbot hopes that scientists can then make the necessary adjustments to the accepted canon, thus helping future generations to fully comprehend the universe and perceive it in the proper light.
From trees to storms to actual people, The Holographic Universe makes the claim that these things are actually ghostly images that are projected from a reality so far removed from our own that they literally reside beyond both space and time. Simply put, Talbot explains that the universe we perceive to be overrun with objects is actually a reflection of a unified reality.
Although the book is easy to read, it’s hard to wrap your head around the new science that Talbot speaks of. Even still, if you’re the type that likes to discover great mysteries of the universe, The Holographic Universe is a superb read and is wholly unique from anything else on the bookshelves.
